Carpenter Bee With Yellow Legs

Carpenter bee with yellow legs. They are named after a small patch of fine white hairs found behind their eyes in both sexes. Key features are a rounded abdomen and a small yellow mark on the face. Small carpenter bees are around one-quarter of an inch long.
Carpenter bees dont have stingers whereas bumblebees do. Bumblebees have yellow markings on their abdomens and are hairy whereas carpenter bees have a black hairless abdomen. However large carpenter bees have less hair than bumblebees.

You can identify these bees by their bright yellow or red markings on their abdomens underside and sides. The shiny hard abdomen is the most distinguishing physical trait of the carpenter bee regardless of the variety in your area. They are 14 inch to 1 inch long and have six legs and antennae.
