Beetle with red legs. The red-headed cardinal beetle is bright red with black legs and long black toothed antennae. This handsome black beetle is flightless and can be seen walking along the ground or in low vegetation in April. It has been a popularly documented pest to dried meat and copra or dried coconut since 1925 both as a larva and an adult.

The white legless larva feed on the roots of these plants. The body is colored a metallic bluish-green and its legs and the first few segments of the antennae are red in color hence its name. The red-legged ham beetle is 4-5 mm long dark metallic blue with reddish legs. The eggs are oval and white in color.
